Archie Rice is a struggling variety player, the last of the song and dance men at a time when vaudeville was fading from British theatres. Set in 1956, The Entertainer is the story of the Rice family struggling to survive in a post-war Britain and Archie’s only escape from reality is the world of comedy and song on the stage. The play became the famous 1960 film with Laurence Olivier, who was nominated for an Oscar playing the role of Archie.
Rhyl Liberty Players augmented The Entertainer with live cabaret and comedy routines - the world of Vaudeville brought back to life against a backdrop of private tragedy. An absorbing piece of theatre.
